Road Salt

I was at the Big M yesterday and ran into a local [registered voter and tax payer].  We talked about the weather and the condition of the roads.  I mentioned to her that all municipalities were cutting back on road salt because of the cost increase  For all the rest of you that forgot about this, here is the link about road salt.  Of course she did bring up a valid point.......isn't our safety on the roads worth the extra cost of salting our roads in the manner we have grown accustomed to?   Hmmmm lets do some math  $6000/ $129= 46 ton of road salt.........I am not sure how much we go through in a year but I am sure $6000 would help defray the cost increase.............

Cut the salt.
We "have become accustomed to" a lot of things we are going to have to learn to live without if a depression comes. They should only sand/salt hills and corners. People should learn to use caution and drive at sane speeds. People need to stop tailgating.

just because one becomes accustomed to something (like a blackberry) doesn't mean it is a "necessity". It may still be a luxury and therefore be dispensible.

California is going bankrupt because people think the State should provide (among other indulgences) poop bags for dogs in every public area with grass.

People better start accepting the fact that sacrifices are going to have to be made. Salt or school computers, sand or new fire hoses ,,,,,

I tend to agree with you NCL. Strategically salting locations is the only way to go...but that does not seem to be happening. I was drawing a parralel to the renovation to our VPD that is most likely going to go over budget and should have been on a lower priority. Renovation or salting the road when needed?????
