New Taser costs VPD $1,200. But it does have a built in cam corder!   The taser purchase did shock me, but only because the motion was passed by the VB after executive session when none of us were there to  hear and/or participate in the discussion.  I have my reservations if our PD really needs a taser. Although,  I absolutely agree that every officer should have a bullet proof vest.

I would like to stress that the only thing I do not agree with is when and how the VB passed the motion to purchase these items.  Their choice to do business in this fashion makes it look as tho they were sneaking it past the citizens......

I will represent the Pro Vest - Pro Taser Side

Vest:
Terrorism and Drug trafficking is alive and well in our country . Even in the most unlikley places (i.e. Ft. Hood .) Lets not forget the big drug bust that went down in Morristown a few years ago . I doubt those guys had cap guns.. Did you ever notice the 50 cal. gun on the bow of the coast guard boats ? 9/11 Terrorists made thier way to our country via Canada.

Domestic Violence Calls almost always involve a weapon . (i.e. Gun , Knife Etc. )

Lets not forget the neighbor who dispatched his dog in the backyard with a hi powered rifle. Many thought he has always been a few cards short of a full deck .

Taser :

The threat of the use of a Taser will often quell a situation

Tasers are safer to use than night sticks, or flashlights etc. Some Suspects have been killed when an office put his whole weight on them to subdue them . Mace can backfire or in a crowd get someone who is not involved.

The 1,200 spent will be easily recouped when an officer does not have to go out on comp or disability for tussling with someone twice his size.

Support the Village Police and Make sure they have all the tools neccessary to do a good job. Many were pretty upset when the discussion of consolidating them into the jeff county sheriffs was brought up .

Brant as usual you raise some valid points! Lengthy but good..... Not that I 100% agree with you but I do appreciate anyone that takes the time to expose your thoughts/beliefs for all to read on the WWW....

In Tel Aviv you can see 18 Y/O off duty soldiers walkin around in blue jeans and sneakers carrying fuckin oozies. It's all about the training and the fuckin rules of engagement. In some countries you could be tasered for that bad punn.
