Why LIE?

I had a conversation with the mayor last week about the Village Dock and why the last section was not completed by Bachs.  He told me that section of dock is where all the electrical wires were to be fed for the dock lighting and the connections had to be made to the electrical panel.  He also went on to say that the DPW workers did not feel comfortable doing that type of electrical work.  The mayor  also mentioned that he was frustrated with the dock completion being held up by the electrical work.  His solution was to hire an electrical contractor and get it [the dock] done. This sounded like a good plan to me.

Yesterday morning [4/12]  I saw the mayor and one of the DPW workers [Mr. Taylor]  looking into the electrical panel located behind the old verizon pay phone.  I asked the mayor if the electrical work was done?  He replied "yes it is".  I asked him who did you finally get to do the work.  The mayor looked at the Mr. Taylor and asked him, "who did we get to work on this", [pause] then the mayor answered his own question and said it was Tom Gardner.  Mr Taylor agreed with the mayor that it was Tom Gardner that did the electrical work. The mayor also mentioned that 3 bids were obtained and he [Tom Gardner] was the lowest.  The mayor also commented that they [the DPW workers] would have the decking done that day and planned to finish the staving tomorrow.  This also sounded like a good plan to me.

Something bothered me about that conversation.

Later that morning I was at Garlocks and I happened to notice a truck that had a Gardner Contractor logo.  I waited in the parking lot.  A few minutes later a man got in the truck and I waved him over.  I asked are you Tom Gardner and he said yes.  I introduced myself and asked him if he did the electrical work at the Village Dock.  He looked confused and said NO I did not.  Mr Gardner went on to say that he had recently done some electrical work for the village [powerline golf course] but also said that DPW Superintendent Millett asked him what his rates were for electrical work.  Gardner said that the going rate was $53.25 per hour but said that he would give the village a break and charge $40 per hour.  Mr Gardner stated that was the only conversation that he had about any other electrical work.

What is the reason to lie about who did the electrical work at the dock?  I wished I knew!

Later that afternoon I returned to the dock to see what progress was made.  I got more than I bargained for when I over heard a conversation between Mr Taylor and another onlooker.  Even though it relates to this topic I will wait and talk about that later.  Or not at all.  Why?  Because it was plan old stupid.....

 But WAIT!!!!!  This gets better!

Even later in the afternoon I ran into Trustee Jarvis.  I asked him "who did the electrical work on the dock project"?  His reply was brief .  Jarvis said Jamie [sp] .  It took me all day but I finally got the answer to my question.

Now I have a new question. Mister Mayor,  Why LIE?

Note:  I know that I have just wasted my time typing all this.  The mayor and all those involved will tell you that none of what I have just said is true.....they will say it never happened.  They will try to convince you that this is just another reason why you should not read my blog.  They will have to live with that!

All I Am Doing Is Telling You The Truth About A Lie!

Wow. So, if the dock catches fire and burns up and the insurance company finds out that it was not done by a licensed contractor, will it be covered? OR is this Jamie a "licensed or certified" electrician?

It's pretty sad that every job in the Bay seems to be done half hazardly and with little thought for the future. If they did things right the first time, they would likely sava a great deal of money in the future by avoiding all of the costs that go along with repairs.

As to the lies, that just seems to be Mayor Robb's style, he never liked the fact that blogs like this and ABAY.Com exist because it actually got people interested into the waste our local government has been involved with over the last few years. It's much easier to wield unchallenged authority than to actually give an honest answer to the people that pay taxes in the village.

Sounds like alot of HOGWASH to me and 12:49 the job wasn't done half hazardly. Look at it and know the real facts before you go off at the cud.

I grew up in a camp my grandparents owned on the river, so it was only logical that I would dock my boat and take my family to Abay for the summers. NEVER in a million years did I imagine that with the dawn of the internet that the village had sooooo many idiot experts in it. My god, would you all quit whining and grow up. On second thought, don't, I enjoy reading this better than the Inquirer magazine and that is written by retards too.

@dtruesdell: Right on! I wonder if the author of this article realizes there is a difference between representative government and direct
democratic democracy? I will help him or her out. All levels of the united states government is representative government (The representatives form an independent ruling body) (for an election period) charged with the responsibility of acting in the people's interest, but not as their proxy representatives; in other words, the mayor doesn't have to answer to one individual, but represents the whole. If he lied (which I doubt) it's probably because he didn't want to have to answer a question from a troublesome jerk. bb

I wonder if the author of this article knows the difference between direct democracy and representtive democracy? The United States is a representative democracy. In other words, not as their proxy representatives, but with enough authority to exercise swift and resolute initiative in the face of changing circumstances. In other words, if the mayor lied,(which I doubt) it's because he didn't want to have to answer to a troublesome jerk. Big Bully
Are you trying to bamboozle us with BS? The circumstances that you speak of were not swiftly changing nor requiring any such resolute initiative that required a lie. For you to further suggest that it is ok to ignore an individuals inquiry is absurd. If keeping our local government transparent and accountable makes me a troublesome jerk.....then I gladly accept the new title....

10:18 How dare you say that to the scared taxpayers who are told they will be raped and pilaged or to the police union who wants more local coverage 24 hours per day year round in the Village of Alexandria Bay

Crack journalism. Your looking into who may or may not have finished the work is going to transform this community for the better. Who cares? It's done right? I'd grant you the courtesy of a signature if I didn't think at least one of you would harass someone related to me about this.
