Open Govt & The Sunshine Law

Here is an excerpt from  State Sen. Darrel J. Aubertine that was stolen from The Oswego Democrat Blog

.....Last week was also Sunshine Week, a national initiative started in 2002 by the American Society of Newspaper Editors and dedicated to creating dialogue and freedom of information in the public sector.......
........One of the bills I’ve signed on to co-sponsor with Sen. Suzi Oppenheimer would establish much needed penalties for violating open meetings law. We’ve seen the articles in our newspapers or on television when local governments shut out the public by violating open meetings law with an executive session or some other means.

A word to the wise to all elected Board members ........stop conducting agenda items in executive session that should be discussed in open meetings.........You guys and gals know exactly what I am talking about here.........Notice that I am not Yawning now

Darrel Aubertine talking about openness and transparency has about as much credibility as the NY Power Authority talking about cheap electric rates.

The guy is smack in the middle of the most secretive budget negotaiation in state history.

Yet h lctures us about his commitment to openness? Where's his criticism of "three men in a room?"

Whatever!
You and I have no control of what happens in Albany or Washington. Other blogs talk about ethics of those politicians......having little or no effect on their actions.

You and I DO have the ability to make sure that our LOCAL Politicians behave in an ethical manner. So......I am gonna be loving this new bill! [giggle]
