Card Board

I am sure there is still a village ordinance that says recyclables are not to be put out any earlier than 7pm Tuesday for pickup on Wednesday morning.  These have been out for several days.

You should have redone the logo to say (CARDBOARD ZONE)

Since the village never picked up the recycling from last week it does make things difficult to get things ready for this season. Most merchants don't have the space to store 2 weeks of recycling indoors. Since the village hasn't had to pick up downtown all winter you'd think they could at least have weekly removal in the spring.

Why should this summer be any different than any other? There always seems to be junk out there on the street.

Well, there is a "bright" spot, at least it does look like the Village is coming to life. I can't believe they stayed there during that high wind!

Jean,
I know things will never change...but damn it, I want to be known as the Cardboard Nazi or something cool like that....;)

Hmmm, maybe they could make you honorary cardboard ticketer guy Jim! Isn't there some sort of ordinance?

I love to see the downtown awakening from its' winters nap, but let's make it nice. The stores aren't open yet right? Couldn't you just keep the cardboard inside until the day it's supposed to be picked up? Break it down and store it flat maybe.

I guess that you'd have to work in a store to understand the process. Except for weekends we get daily shipments which go inside to be unloaded, marked and stocked. This requires space to move around in the store and the isles must be open to access different departments in the store safely. Most of the stores do keep the cardboard inside until the pick up day but with the village skipping last weeks pick up it made for a bad situation. Also with no trash cans out it did give the tourists a place to put their trash, in the recycling.

Well hopefully the situations will be rectified in the upcoming months and hopefully this year the store owners will keep the streets clear so that the Village doesn't look like a sidewalk sale. Very distasteful.

Thanks Patty, that's a very valid explanation/reason. We can all deal with the cardboard if you can deal with idiocritisizable violation of a village ordinance with J.C. teeth.

Honestly, there is no reason/excuse for the cardboard to be placed outside for days on end. It makes the downtown look cheap, slummy, slimy, crappy, etc.

Your search - idiocritisizable - did not match any documents.

I agree with Jim. I have never, ever gone to another place ( like Old Forge for example ) and seen cardboard out on the street. It's not like it's a long drive to the recycling center if you have an overabundance of cardboard and the trash doesn't get picked up. I know that you probably feel that you pay for the service of having your cardboard picked up, but out here in the country (where we own a business) I would never place cardboard boxes out front of my shop for days while it rains on them. It looks trashy and cheap. Yes, we do have a garage to store them in, but we do not have the luxury of having someone come along and pick up our recyclables. I would take them to the recycling center.

I do agree Patty, that certain things should probably be done differently to help businesses be able to keep the streets clear. The streets should be for our guests, not trash and whether it's recyclables, or garbage that has no other place to go but on the ground, everyone needs to work together to make the Bay pleasing to the eye.

I think that this time of year, you have to call the village office and let them know you need a trash/cardboard/recycle pickup in the downtown district.
It's not like the DPW ever goes down there and takes notice of a pile of pickup trash on their own.
I take most of my stuff to the town transfer site. That takes the guesswork out of it.
A call to Sharon at the Village Office should do the trick in the future...
