You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours

Reciprocation, Cooperation, and Sharing are words that sum up the above topic.  It is a two way street, give AND take.....

The Village received some bad news the other night when we found out the Upper James St Dock is structurally unsound.  The day after the village meeting, The VB sent one of its delegates to ask TS Millett if the town would assist with the cost of fixing the village dock.   She said she would present it to the Town Board meeting that night.

Lots of suggestions and comments were made when this was presented to the Town Board.  Here are somethings that were said by TB members:

  • We helped the village out when the town took over the ice arena [sarcasm].
  • We do not receive any revenue from the village docks...
  • Tell them to have a raffle.....
  • Sorry it is not in our budget... [ reference to the town asking for a community discount at the village golf course]
  • An inaudible comment about the Police Department......
[In my opinion, the TB politely told the VB to FO]
All of these comments can be heard starting at about 18minutes

Right. Alex Bay don't need no fucking dock. Too many damn boats around in the Summer.

Too many boats around in the summer? What does that mean? Joe the Homeless is also brainless! The dock belongs to the Village and the Village should fix it.

Why not ask the bed tax committee or the chamber of commerce? The dock is mostly used by tourists and maybe the folks who profit from it should pay for it to be repaired. Last I checked, that was not me.

Joe the Homeless is great. I think anonymous might have missed the joke.

Lillian, did you ever think that maybe those tourists chip in enough to keep your taxes down a little?
That dock is an institution and is just as important as any street in the village/town.

I walk that dock all the time! So do the tourists! To me it is an extension of James St.

What about using the money they have collect in dock fees, where does that money go to? I know I use to work down there in the early to mid 90's and the village has been collecting fees since before then and I think they still are. They collect by the number of feet the boat was and the amount of time the boater was staying. They also had a fee for overnight and had tickets for violators.

All of what you said is still going on! Dock fees per foot and tickets for violators. Last summer I reported that the Village gave the dock attendants no system for the accurate collection of fees or the determination of who was in violation. So my guess is there is no revenue accountability either!!

The botom line is the dock is a necessary structure for Alex Bay. Perhaps (with help from the village) we can raise money with donations and a fund raiser. Those who donate a $100.00 can have their name on a plaque on the new dock system.... just an idea....

Kurt you are right the dock is the botom line, but the reson this happend is because some of the people just sat there and watch what was happening but NO ONE did any action so they paid the price.
